Christmas morning is always a thrill, whether you’re exchanging gifts or simply happy to see your family for the first time all year. It’s even better when you wake up to an indulgent breakfast. Enter: Trader Joe’s French toast, the star of a festive morning meal that will bring you comfort and cheer on a snowy day.

The recipe, which is for apple spice French toast, comes from the Instagram account Trader Joe’s Kitchen. On Christmas morning the house tends to be a little hectic — there’s probably a kid crying, and a cousin who slept on your couch who needs coffee — but don’t stress. This recipe is super simple and doesn’t require too many fancy ingredients or complicated cooking techniques. All you need is a box of Trader Joe’s frozen French toast, pumpkin spice mix, an apple, and some butter.

As per the directions, you just pop the chopped-up apples and butter in a hot pan and sauté for about 10 minutes, then add the pumpkin spice mix. The French toast can be cooked quickly in a toaster oven or even the microwave if you’ve got no time to waste. Scoop the apples on top of the warm French toast and viola! You’ve got an upgraded take on a breakfast classic.

If you want to get fancy with this recipe, you could always skip the boxed stuff and make your own French toast (you can find our flawless recipe right here). But don’t feel pressured to pull out all the stops on Christmas. The holidays are supposed to be full of joy — a time when you should be taking a break from work, not giving yourself more of it. I hereby give you full permission to take it easy on Christmas morning, and make your family breakfast from a box. I bet no one will even be able to tell the difference.
