I’m a firm believer that fall is the best season. I love throwing on my favorite thick sweaters, making all the scrumptious cozy recipes I bookmarked throughout the year, and, of course, breaking out my fall kitchen decor to create the ultimate ode to autumn. Some pieces come and go in my fall collection, but the one must-have for my home each year is a cinnamon broom.

It’s not a real broom, but a versatile decor piece that emphasizes the autumn aesthetic and, according to some, delivers good fortune while fending off bad energy. And, as luck would have it, Trader Joe’s just brought back their highly awaited stash of cinnamon brooms — and they’re only $5 a pop! Of course, I had to run to the store.

This cinnamon broom can be seen in this TikTok, where it’s shown off while the creator talks about her annual routine with it, which includes hanging it up near the door year-round so the house smells divine. And, as it turns out, I do the same!

How to Decorate with Your Cinnamon Broom

I have a 3-foot one hanging in my kitchen already (a wonderful fall gift, courtesy of my mom!) and love taking a whiff of that sweet spice as soon as I walk through the door. Other ways to display this fall staple include the following:

  • Putting it on your front porch alongside a cute pumpkin display.
  • Leaning it against a wall in your entryway.
  • Popping it in a corner of the living room.
  • Hanging it up with your other indoor Halloween decor.

What exactly causes that oh-so-delicious (and distinctive) scent? According to Trader Joe’s, its cinnamon broom is made of raw pine and pure cinnamon oil. The strength of the aroma, by the way, is hotly debated by many — including people in the Trader Joe’s subreddit. Some adore the smell, while others say it’s too strong for the home. Each person’s sense of smell and tolerance for cinnamon is different, which is why I recommend sniffing a cinnamon broom yourself before you form an opinion. If you end up taking one home and find it too strong, you can always leave it in the bag for a bit to soften the scent, or place it outside to let it breathe. I’ve found that the smell is strong at first, but starts to dwindle after a few weeks.

For the record, I’m pro-cinnamon broom all the way. But if you’re worried about a super-strong scent, or simply don’t have the space to hang up a 3-foot broom, don’t worry — Trader Joe’s sells a much smaller cinnamon whisk for only $1.29 each. I picked one up at my local Trader Joe’s during a fall groceries run and put it above my kitchen door. It fit perfectly!

Ways you can use the cinnamon whisk include the following:

  • Hanging it in the bathroom.
  • Making it a focal point in a centerpiece for a dining room table.
  • Displaying it on your mantel.

Love This Broom? Then You’ll Also Love …

I found the smaller cinnamon whisk at my Trader Joe’s, but I couldn’t find a full-sized broom. If you strike out like I did, check out other stores like Dollar General, Home Depot, and Walmart that sell similar versions. If you scour the town and still can’t find a cinnamon broom, Amazon has a similar version that comes in a two-pack that ships directly to your door. Or, you could grab this two-pack— a 3-foot broom and a 6-inch broom — for double the fall fun.

As you scan your local Trader Joe’s for the beloved broom, keep your eyes peeled for other fall staples like the popular woodlands scented candle and the much-loved apple cider donuts
