Earlier this year, my fiancé and I decided to swap out beef burgers during our Monday burger nights. We tried turkey burgers, but found them too bland. Then we tried portobello mushroom burgers, which were tasty but left us feeling hungry later on that evening. It took a Snapchat photo from my sister to introduce us to a grocery item we had no idea existed: Trader Joe’s Chili Lime Chicken Burgers. She had grilled them with her husband and they looked downright exquisite in the photo. I had to have them.

I found them in the freezer section, and they cost just $3.49 for four. The box gives lots of directions on how to cook the patties: You can grill them, cook them in a skillet, or you can even air-fry them, as I recently discovered. You can cook the burgers either thawed or from frozen (if you do decide to cook them from frozen, increase cooking five to six minutes per side). We have a Cuisinart Griddler, which we typically use to make burgers on, so we decided to give that a try first.

The first time we made the burgers, I was struck by the mouthwatering smell coming from our grill. The aromas of garlic, pepper, and grilled chicken got me extremely excited to eat dinner! Because we cooked the burgers from frozen, they took about eight to 10 minutes. We put them on whole-grain buns and topped them with a thick slice of Trader Joe’s cheddar cheese. I put some mayo on mine and my fiancé chose mustard. We made some sweet potato tots in our air fryer to eat with the burgers.

Back to the burgers! They were Very Good. They weren’t too spicy, either — which was something I was worried about, as I tend to not like really spicy foods. (If you want to make them even spicier, Trader Joe’s does make a separate chili lime seasoning.) The burgers had just enough flavor and I’d honestly say that they’re more interesting than a typical beef or turkey burger.

Because these burgers are so versatile, we’re looking forward to experimenting more with them on our Monday burger nights. I feel like they’d be great with any number of burger fixings, on top of a salad, or even on their own. Depending on what kind of Monday we’re having, I also think they’d go really well with an ice-cold margarita.
