Yesterday morning, I got a emphatic message from Lauren Masur, our Staff Writer: “This is the best thing I’ve ever eaten,” she said. See, I’ve been away all week (the great benefits of being able to work remotely!) and the closest Trader Joe’s is 100 miles away. So I asked Lauren if she could be my proxy and go on the hunt for the new Chocolate Lava Gnocchi. She couldn’t find it, but she did find these new Mini Cheesecake Cones, which are $3.99 for a box of four, three-inch cones.

She had one before breakfast (food writers are nothing if not dedicated to their jobs!) and seriously couldn’t hold back. And she is NOT one for hyperbole.

“The not-too-sweet cheesecake filling is fancily piped into each glazed, almond encrusted shell, which makes these decadent desserts look like you bought them from a boutique patisserie for a lot of money. But no, a box at TJ’s costs $3.99 — a dollar each,” she said.

“As for the taste, it’s almost like the best cannoli you’ve ever had … except one thousand times better, because it’s filled with cheesecake. The cone itself is a little sticky because it’s glazed with a sugary syrup, but that’s what the thoughtful piece of parchment paper is for,” she continued.

Suddenly, I found myself annoyed that I wasn’t with Lauren. WHY WAS THIS THE WEEK THAT I PICKED TO GO AWAY? Having some legit FOMO, we started talking about when these treats would come in handy. We decided on Thanksgiving, a holiday cocktail party, and even just a random Tuesday night when you need a little something sweet after dinner. The cones need to be kept in the freezer and you do have to thaw them before you can eat them, but they really just need a few minutes on the counter.

I asked Lauren to save me one, but she declined.

Have you tried these yet? Did you love them as much as Lauren did?
