After launching an Advent treat-packed calendar for dogs last year, Trader Joe’s announced that they’re ready to show cats some love this holiday season too. During the 17th episode of Trader’s Joe’s podcast, Inside Trader Joe’s, the buzzy topic of Advent calendars dedicated to pets came up. (The things we do for our furry friends, right?)

Vice President of Product Marketing Matt Sloan and Vice President of Merchandising Colin Fields were quick to defend the quirky idea. “Last year we came out with the dog Advent calendar, which seemed pretty odd until we got out in the stores and there was quite a following for it,” Colin said in the podcast. “And we heard from our feline-loving customers that we should have something for their cats. So we found it, we developed it, and it’s pretty cool.”

What’s behind the cardboard count-down flaps, you ask? “Well these are magical treats made of salmon and seaweed — and cats actually love seaweed,” said Colin.

These aren’t goodies you’ll want to steal from your cat and nibble on yourself, though. Matt admitted that he tried one and revealed that they weren’t exactly the tastiest thing — but that’s according to human tastebuds and standards. “But if you’re a cat, you’ll really like that. And after eating 24 of them, your 25th one will be a gigantic one, shaped like a fish,” he said.

So, if you’re stuck on what to get your cat for the holidays or just want to surprise them with a little something fun to spoil them, this quirky calendar is for you. And while you’re at Trader Joe’s, don’t forget to grab an Advent calendar (or simply some human seaweed snacks) for yourself too . Then you and your furry friends can count down to the holidays together! Just be warned, the dog treat calendars flew off shelves last year, so you’ll want to make sure you snag one of these — and fast.
