We’ve All Been Making Wraps Incorrectly for Our Entire Lives — This Tortilla Hack from TikTok Proves It
Grab a tortilla and four delicious ingredients — you’re about to meet your new go-to snack. Last month, Samira Kazan, known on TikTok and Instagram as @alphafoodie, shared an ingenious snack hack that’s already garnered thousands of likes and shares on social media: a layered quesadilla.
Here’s how to make your own: First, cut a slit in a large, burrito-sized tortilla from the bottom to the center. Then, add a different, but complementary ingredient to each of the four quarters of your tortilla (think: spreads, meat, cheese, veggies, or whatever strikes your fancy). Finally, the fun part: Starting with the cut edge, fold the tortilla into four quarters. Once your tortilla is folded, it’s time to heat it up! You can either toast yours on a pan for a few minutes on each side, or heat it in a panini press if you have one. That smart toaster hack might work here, too.
Kazan uses za’atar, spinach, cheese, and homemade chili sauce in hers, but the commenters have even more ideas. One plans to go the ultra-savory route with cream cheese, capers, smoked salmon, and cucumbers; another wants to make a breakfast quesadilla with shredded cheese, pre-cooked scrambled eggs, bacon, and chili sauce. Alice Choi of Hip Foodie Mom also shared her brilliant dessert-inspired creation on Instagram. She filled her tortilla with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, and peanut butter.
Personally, I think I’m most excited about using this hack for a pizza-themed lunch or dinner. You could fill the tortilla with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and then two other toppings — maybe sautéed mushrooms and peppers? I can’t wait to try it out!
The combinations are literally endless, and that’s likely part of why it’s so popular. You can have fun with fancy ingredients, or just use whatever you have left in your kitchen, preventing food waste (and saving money). This snack hack is as simple as it is versatile. In just a couple of minutes, you’ll have a toasty, satisfying, quesadilla — and, hopefully, a new zest for creativity in the kitchen.
