¡Toro Toro Toro!: Art Bulls For Charity

If you’ve been to Spain, you’ve seen the bulls. These handsome fellows pepper the Spanish countryside, standing tall and proud and black against the horizon. It wasn’t until my most recent trip to Spain, touring the Osborne wineries that I learned the bulls were originally billboards for the Osborne company, but have now become a national icon.

Well, those big bulls are turning fifty this year and to celebrate their birthday, Osborne is sponsoring an international fundraiser for Share Our Strength to “harness the strength of the bull in the fight against childhood hunger.”

Twenty Art Bull “canvases” (a 3×3 foot cutout scale model of the Osborne Bull meant to be a wall hanging) have been decorated by notable Spain enthusiasts and Spanish actors, fashion designers, chefs, and artists. The “Art Bulls” will be showcased in a series of exhibitions beginning in New York and spaning coast to coast. After the herd completes its voyage around the U.S., the bulls will be auctioned online in February 2007 with all proceeds going to Share our Strength’s fight against childhood hunger.
