People are cooking everywhere in the world, and the things we eat say a lot about us. And for much of the world, making food involves looking up recipes and ideas on Google. This week Google released its annual "Google's Year in Search" data, and the list includes all the most-searched recipes in the world. Did you make any of these this year?

1. Chicken Breast

Surprise, surprise, the most-searched recipe around the world is chicken breast. It's healthy, inexpensive, and there are countless ways of preparing it. What's not to love?

2. Ground Beef

After chicken breasts, ground beef came in second in Google's global ranking of most-searched recipes. Ground beef is extremely useful and relatively inexpensive. You can cook it right away or freeze it for later, and it can be transformed into all kinds of meals, like hamburgers, tacos, pastas, bread fillings, stuffed vegetables, sandwiches, and meatloaf, of course.

3. Poğaça (Turkish Bread Recipe)

Poğaça is a soft, buttery Turkish roll that's popular at breakfast or tea time. It's sold either plain or with a filling like cheese, olives, potato, ground beef, and more. It's delicious, and it was the third most-googled recipe in the world for 2017. Here's a recipe from Ozlem's Turkish Table.

4. French Toast

Somebody is having a good breakfast. French toast often seems like a special-occasion treat, but people were apparently making a whole lot of it in 2017.

5. Kek Tarifi (Cake Recipe)

It's no surprise that cakes are the most-googled dessert recipe for 2017. Between coffee cake, wedding cake, and birthday cake, the presence of a cake is a good indicator that you're about to have a swell time. A lot of people in Turkey appear to have been searching for cake recipes on Google, too. Here's a recipe for limonlu kek, or lemon cake, from Ozlem's Turkish Table.

6. Pork Chops

Pork chop recipes are one of the most-searched recipes in the world, and in the U.S. in particular. Pork chops are the only item that's on Google's list of most searched-for recipes in the world and also on Google's list of most-searched for recipes in the U.S. Pork chops also made the list in 2016. They're simple and delicious, and it seems likely that they'll be one of the most-googled recipes in 2018, too.

7. Spaghetti Squash

Apparently the entire world wants to know if this big yellow gourd can really be turned into a substitute for pasta, because spaghetti squash is one of the most-searched recipes in the world. It's also the only vegetable on the list of the world's most-googled recipes.

8. Coleslaw

The population of the world is eating a lot more coleslaw than I ever would have guessed. The shredded cabbage salad is a popular side dish, especially for barbecues, and it's so easy you can make it in less than a minute.

9. Pesto

Pesto is one of Italy's most famous products, but people love it all over the world. The famed green paste of basil, garlic, Parmesan, and pine nuts is perfect for pasta, but also for sandwiches, pizza, chicken, and more. Italy did the whole world a favor.

10. Dumplings

Stuffed Chinese dumplings, called jiaozi in Mandarin, are one of the most-searched recipes in the world. They can be made with a variety of meat, vegetable, and seafood fillings. They're traditionally served in mass quantities during the New Year, but they're good any time.
