This is the time of year when we start to think, wistfully, of burnt toasted marshmallows, flaming on sticks. But we can't exactly build a fire on our back porch, so what's a city-dweller to do?
Come on. This isn't hard.
Roasty, toasty marshmallows are such a quintessential taste of fall, especially around Halloween. Whether you sandwich them into a s'more (here are 12 extra-creative s'more combos to try) or just eat them as is, they're a fun treat and a totally throw-back way to end a pizza night with friends.
But roasted 'mallows don't have to only happen around the campfire. There are other ways to get the job done.
1. Your gas stove
What has open flames in your kitchen? Your gas stove, of course! Behold the beauty of marshmallow cream, wrapped around a strawberry, getting toasted right over these handy little flames.
2. Your outdoor grill
If you don't live right in the city and if you have a gas grill out back, that will do just as well. The first time I did this I felt like a genius. We had friends over and we pulled off the grill grate and huddled around in the crisp night air. We roasted lots and lots of marshmallows, and then sandwiched them between those chewy chocolate featherweight cookies.
3. Your kitchen torch
Remember that kitchen torch you bought one Valentine's Day for crème brûlée? Well, pull it back out and put it to good use by lighting up a marshmallow or two. Just watch your fingers!
Time to roast some marshmallows! No campfire required.
