Tiny Start-Up Count. It Is Helping Us Crush Our Fitness Goals
You might think that sitting behind computers all day makes us soft, but you’d have to think again! Here in our NY offices and also remotely, all of our employees are part of a super-cool digital wellness network that tracks our exercise, prods us along (we can compete with other companies), and keeps up our fitness awareness. Founded by my brother, Oliver Ryan, Count. It is an awesome addition to our company culture, so I’m proud to share this short video he just made.
About Count.It
Count. It is built by Count. It Labs, headquartered in New York City. The founding team of Count. It has been building healthy living challenges for years. Way back in 2009, what is now Count. It was launched as pioneering fitness culture blog Social Workout by Oliver Ryan, co-founder of Apartment Therapy. The blog combined color commentary on personal health with simple group health challenges.
Social Workout eventually grew from blog to purpose-built challenge site, hosting more than 40,000 public challenges, and working with a range of partners including AOL, Huffington Post, Everyday Health, Yoga Journal, Equinox, and Greatist. The site has been recognized by the New York Times, Time, Venture Beat, Mashable, and Esquire, among others.
In 2013, Social Workout joined forces with Whole Foods Market to launch Full Spoon, a fully automated corporate wellness game/service that allowed users to earn discounts at their local Whole Foods Market for being physically active and for purchasing healthy food. Early clients included Tesla Motors and LinkedIn.
In 2015, after graduating from XLerate Health in Louisville, KY, the company launched its own corporate wellness service under the Count. It brand. The company now serves hundreds of companies across the U.S.
