I’m Spending Half the Amount of Time Cleaning My Kitchen Floors, Thanks to This Brilliant Tool
I never thought I’d wax poetic about a floor cleaning tool — and don’t worry, I won’t — but I really could. When it comes to how much I love my new cleaning obsession, well, let me count the ways. It’s the Tineco Floor One Switch S7, and it has single-handedly enabled me to have the floors I always wanted in less time with less fuss than any other method I’ve tried (for my family of seven).
The Switch S7 comes with a wet-dry unit that vacuums and mops hard floors with one pass. It also comes with a separate vacuum cleaner, including attachments (nozzle, a tangle-free brush bar, and an upholstery tool). Although I did find the device heavy, the vacuum works pretty well — especially if you’re only vacuuming area rugs and upholstery (rather than wall-to-wall carpeting). The upholstery attachment got the dog fur off my blue chairs better than my trusty Dyson, but the Tineco probably won’t replace my Dyson for vacuuming area rugs or carpeting. However, it’s convenient to have everything you need to clean every kind of flooring in the Switch.
But when it comes to the wet-dry vacuum/mop portion of the Tineco, I’m absolutely blown away. I had seen it all over social media for months, but never gave it much credence. Using it myself in my own home, though, has made me an absolute convert — even with its hefty price tag. (Considering that the Switch S7 set is both a vacuum and a mopping system, it makes the $600+ price a bit more palatable, in my humble opinion.)
I don’t know how I functioned without a wet-dry mopping system before! And I’ll never not have one now. Here’s why I think it’s so great, and how it’s cut my floor cleaning routine in half.
It replaces every other mop.
The Tineco has replaced all my other mops. I had several, including spray mops, a wet mop and spin bucket system, and a similar system that has a separate reservoir in the bucket for clean water. The Tineco does a better job than all of them, reducing multiple tools to a single, sleek unit.
It mops with only clean water.
I’m a huge proponent of wet-mopping. Vacuuming and even spray mopping just don’t seem to do as good of a job as cleaning the floors with actual water does. However, you can’t escape the fact that wet-mopping involves some amount of sloshing dirty water — or at least a dirty mop head — around on the very floors you’re trying to clean. The Tineco eliminates this problem by only introducing clean water to the floor and then scraping the dirty water off the roller brush. You can see this in action: The dirty water fills the dirty water tank as you’re cleaning the floor. It’s gross but super satisfying.
I don’t need to sweep and vacuum first.
The fact that I can vacuum and mop at the same time is a complete and utter game-changer. The Tineco picks up even large debris like the leaves that get tracked in from the back porch, but does just as good of a job at lifting up tiny dust and dirt particles. And in the same “sweep,” it mops the floor.
I still can’t wrap my head around not only how efficient this is, but also how well it accomplishes the task. It even grabs dirt super close to the wall, which is notoriously hard to get with most vacuums and mops. I have never felt my floors as clean on my bare feet as they feel after using my Tineco.
This two-in-one action allows me to get my floors this clean in less than half the time it would take me to vacuum and then mop. When I used to vacuum the kitchen floor, I’d often have to sweep first to get up the larger debris like pieces of craft projects or leaves. The Tineco is designed to pick up these types of things without clogging the machine. Rather than waiting to mop during my weekend deep-clean of the kitchen, I can easily use the Tineco every night as part of my kitchen shutdown routine. It makes me so happy to have my kitchen this clean so often!
I don’t need to lug buckets of water around.
In addition to cutting my floor-cleaning routine in half, I also love not having to do any of the work of getting a mop or bucket ready. It’s so nice not to have to fill a bucket and move it around with me and then carry it to the toilet to dump out. The Tineco not only does all this with one machine, but its design also makes it extra easy to use: It has wheels that propel backwards, so you can use it for a long time without ever feeling the strain of pushing and pulling it back and forth. In fact, it almost feels like it’s moving for you.
It talks to me.
The Tineco is a smart mop. It tells you (with a voice!) what mode it’s in, when you need to empty the dirty water tank or fill the clean water tank, and when you need to charge it or turn on the self-clean function. I love that I don’t need to keep an eye on the tanks while I’m cleaning or wonder when it needs to be self-cleaned, because the vacuum itself lets me know what it needs.
It cleans up the messiest messes.
Okay, not pet messes — I use our Bissel for that. But think of the trickiest types of kitchen messes, like the entire bowl of soup my daughter dropped when she took it out of the microwave and the bowl was too hot. The Tineco has a suction setting that tackles these kinds of wet messes as easily as you would vacuum a dry floor, and it works amazingly well. I couldn’t help sacrificing an egg to test out my unit’s functionality and I was not disappointed. With one pass, the Tineco picked up the egg and shell and cleaned the floor. Mind, blown.
It literally cleans itself (plus, hand-washing is super easy, too).
The Tineco dirty water tank needs to be emptied by hand, and I rinse and dry it every time I empty it, too. It’s super easy to do and, again, immensely satisfying. (I will never get used to how dirty the dirty water is!). But the parts of the unit that you can’t easily get to, like the tubing and even the roller bar, are cleaned by the machine itself with the push of a button. It’s amazing to see the dirty water that fills the tank just from the tubing and the roller bar being cleaned. To top it off, the machine dries the roller bar too, reducing musty odors.
While I prefer my Dyson for our upstairs wall-to-wall carpeting, the Tineco Switch would take the place of both a vacuum and mop for anyone whose space has mostly hard flooring. In my case, I use it mostly on our first floor, where we have LVP flooring. I use it upstairs on our bathroom floors too, which now get mopped far more often than they used to.
All in all, the Tineco has revolutionized my hard-floor cleaning routine, giving me pristine floors and leaving me plenty of time to enjoy them.
