Easy Homemade Chocolate Syrup

Just when you thought hot chocolate was the most perfect and quintessential cup of coziness for the fall and winter (sorry, PSL lovers), content creator @fitwafflekitchen has given us a reason to make it even more indulgent.

Eloise Head, baker and author of Fitwaffle’s Baking It Easy, posted her recipe for whipped hot chocolate and her 1.8 million IG followers went scrambling off to buy the three simple ingredients — hot chocolate powder, double cream, and chocolate milk — to make the delicious treat. “It’s like a luxury hot chocolate, but better,” she says on the post.

The secret to upping the ante for this recipe, however, isn’t all the chocolate — it’s actually the double cream. Known as heavy or whipping cream in the U.S., this dense cream is skimmed from the surface of milk. To make the whipped hot cocoa, just beat the chocolate powder and double cream until soft peaks form, then pipe the whip on top of chocolate milk (hot or cold — your choice), and top with marshmallows, if you’d like.

This recipe allows you to cozy up with four mugs of the sweet stuff (maybe you share, maybe you don’t — we definitely won’t judge). And if, for some reason, you don’t drink it all ASAP, you can even store the whip in the fridge for future concoctions.

Looking for a twist on your traditional hot chocolate instead? This frozen hot chocolate is exactly what you’ve been dreaming of.
