This week we're sharing with you something we've picked up on our travels. It's been a while since I've been able to take to the road but it didn't take me long to decide that this set of three café au lait bowls would be my choice.
These bowls were purchased on my last day in Paris in September of 2005. My intention was to give them to a dear friend who had been very instrumental in getting me to Paris and with whom I had enjoyed many cups of coffee over the years. I had the store clerk wrap them very carefully in layers of bubble wrap and they miraculously survived the trip home in my luggage.
But when I arrived home and unpacked them I found that I just couldn't give them away. I felt a little selfish, but the feeling was strong and I decided to keep them instead. (Don't worry — my friend received another gift which she adored.)
Throughout the years I have used these bowls with much delight. They make excellent cereal, yogurt, and yes, café au lait bowls. They also make good soup bowls and excellent prep bowls. I use them several times a week and wash them carefully by hand. I get a lot of pleasure when I reach for them and when I do, I am always reminded of Paris and the beautiful, magical week I spent there.
