Last week I was pining for summer and warmer weather recipes. If it's possible, the weather in New York City became even more bleak. Giant piles of icy brown snow turned to 5-foot wide puddles, creating a winter jump sport that should almost definitely be a last minute addition to the Sochi Olympics. Needless to say, it was a week that practically begged you to order takeout for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That was a good thing too, because this was also the week my kitchen became infested with tiny ants.
You know what's a real buzzkill to all those lofty plans to have a warm weather staycation via summer recipes in the kitchen? Ants, that's what. Nope, this isn't one of those picturesque ants on your picnic blanket situation. We're talking a full on infestation coming from who knows where of totally unharmful, but very annoying tiny ants. Welcome to New York City, where everything's trying to infest something and you've got no control over your rental apartment no matter how crystal clean you keep the kitchen!
Let me just cut to the chase and sum it up by painting this picture for you. There were a lot of expletives, a lot of wondering what was so dang delicious about the cabinet with tea in it, and a lot of spraying stuff while googling "should I really be spraying this stuff in my kitchen??"
There's a silver lining though: My cabinets are so beautifully organized now. Annoying as these little pests were, it could have been ages before these cabinets saw a good scrub again! Shelves wiped, fresh and cheerful contact paper intact, these cabinets are ready for anything. Well, almost anything.
