This Is What Chrissy Teigen Makes in the Slow Cooker
Chrissy Teigen may be a Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model, TV host, and wife of near EGOT-winner John Legend, but she’s also your friendly neighborhood food blogger. Since starting her WordPress site So Delushious back in 2011, Teigen has made it clear that her life revolves around food. Last year, her debut cookbook, Cravings, ranked second only to Ina Garten’s on the best-selling list.
This woman really knows what she’s doing.
So sometimes even Teigen takes a breather and breaks out the slow cooker — which John bought for her leading up to their engagement! — for phenomenal fall dishes and party-throwing hacks. Check out her go-to recipes for that good ol’ fashioned Crock-Pot.
Thai-Style Short Ribs
Always mining her mother, Pepper, for inspiration, Chrissy’s take on slow-cooked short ribs packs a punch with curry paste, sweet chili sauce, and plenty of garlic and ginger. But her secret to extra flavor is searing the short ribs before dropping them into the slow cooker with all those seasonings. Then she lets them cook for anywhere from six to eight hours or until it falls off the bone, she tells The Fab Life. “The best part is that it only gets better as it sits,” she says. When you can’t wait any longer and you’re ready to dig in, finish it all off with creamy peanut sauce and fresh mango-jalapeño salsa.
While running through this recipe in the above video, Teigen once again sung the praises of the $30 countertop appliance. “A slow cooker is something so important to invest in,” she says. “To come home and your house is filled with this beautiful aroma, there’s nothing better.”
Legend considers himself Teigen’s sous chef — “I do chopping and taking out the trash,” he tells Architectural Digest. But there are a few dishes where she looks to his expertise, like his famous fried chicken that inspired a butt-balancing meme and his decadent macaroni and cheese.
His chili, however, got prominent placement in the “Party Time” section of her cookbook; it’s one that the couple continually turns to with the slow cooker. Loaded with Lawry’s-seasoned ground beef, mushrooms, and kidney beans, Legend’s recipe calls for a generous supply of cayenne and chili with just enough brown sugar to balance the spice. During football season especially, she’ll whip up a big batch of this belly-warming meal.
“I’m literally sitting on the floor with a Crock-Pot,” she tells AOL. “We do what we can to make people feel like they can be really relaxed.”
