When you go out to your favorite cocktail bar, what’s your regular order? Do you stick with something classic, or do you try something the bartender has created? Cocktail trends come and go, and it’s hard to keep up with what is trendy. Negronis might have been incredibly popular a few years ago, but is that still the case?

Drinks International asked 100 of the top bars around the country to find out what the most popular cocktails are for 2016.

Scrolling through the list of 50 popular cocktails for 2016, I think you’ll find a bunch of surprises. For example, vodka martinis are only at number 35 on this list, whereas espresso martinis are at number 27. Mojitos (number 10) beat the Bloody Mary this year (number 11), and Negronis were ranked second most popular.

So what cocktail is the most popular for 2016 (so far)? A classic Old Fashioned ranks number one this year. This simple cocktail is always in style, and it’s particularly nice to drink in fall and winter. At its most basic level, an Old Fashioned is composed of sugar, aromatic bitters, citrus, and rye whiskey.

If you haven’t made one yet (shock!) you better try your hand at one tonight.
