Biting into a caramel apple is one of those ideas that sounds good in theory, but ends up being kind of awkward (read: you end up with sticky caramel all over your face). Also, once you get through the initial layer of caramel, you’re just left with a regular ol’ apple. But this ingenious method takes care of all that.

This recipe was inspired by chocolate turtle candies, so the apples are covered in melted chocolate and topped with a thick drizzle of caramel and a sprinkling of crushed pecans.

By slicing the apple and putting a Popsicle stick into each slice before coating it in the caramel, you stretch one messy, hard-to-eat dessert into a bunch of individual, more manageable servings. Plus, each side of the apple slice is covered in chocolate, so you get more bang for your buck here.

Set these out for your kids and you’re sure to be their hero forever.
