These Everything Bagel Brussels Sprouts Are Everything
For some, Brussels sprouts can be a hard sell. Although the cruciferous veggie has gone mainstream over the years (we probably have bacon to thank for that), it’s always helpful to jazz them up a bit if you’re trying to incite enthusiasm.
Enter: these roasted Brussels sprouts with everything bagel spice.
The same spice blend on your favorite everything bagel is what takes basic roasted Brussels sprouts from meh to yay! The idea is so ingenious, I wish I’d thought of it.
Stores like Trader Joe’s and North Market Spices (based in Ohio, but you can order online!) sell the spice mix, or you can make your own at home. A mix of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, dried minced garlic, and coarse salt, everything bagel spice blesses whatever food it touches with a perfect balance of saltiness and crunchiness.
The key to perfectly roasted Brussels sprouts (and not burning the spice mix) is to bake the sprouts in the oven first for about 12 minutes, then add the seasoning, and bake again for another 12 or so minutes.
And voila! With the shake of a simple spice blend, this so-so side dish just got a whole lot better.
