These Chocolate Cupcakes Have a Sweet Surprise
It isn’t often that a recipe, especially for a pairing of classic flavors like chocolate and strawberry, catches me off-guard and truly surprises me. This one for chocolate-strawberry cupcakes, however, has a unique ingredient that could be the key to the best frosting ever.
The classic combo of strawberries and chocolate is undeniable and often makes appearances on the internet around Valentine’s Day (chocolate-covered strawberries, anyone?). But this a really special twist on the pairing.
This recipe uses a staple chocolate cupcake recipe (you can even use your own if you have a favorite!) and a thick chocolate ganache to make things extra decadent. The secret, however, is what lies inside. What seems at first to be a basic strawberry buttercream is actually made with a unique ingredient: ground freeze-dried strawberries. When combined with other buttercream ingredients, it makes a thick and luscious (without being watery and overly sweet) filling that will make anyone go weak in the knees.
