Now that Labor Day is over and school is back in session, lazy Saturday mornings will become a sacred thing. You need a good breakfast and your favorite old-school cartoon show to take advantage of that precious time.

Of course, the correct breakfasts to eat while watching “Hey Arnold!” and “Rugrats” are fundamentally different. You can’t mess this up, so we’re here to help. Go ahead: Choose your favorite Saturday morning cartoon and we’ll tell you what you should eat for breakfast.

You should eat: Funfetti Cake Oatmeal
If you’re a fan of the “Rugrats” you need to eat something soft and playful, just like this oatmeal recipe. It’s good enough for a baby, but fabulous enough for Angelica to eat, too.

If you’re watching “Recess”…

You should eat: Make-Ahead “Ham & Cheese” Casserole
This isn’t the casserole you see in a bad lunchroom cafeteria! No, this is the kind of thing you’ll want to eat before going out to recess and taking over the world, one playground at a time.

If you’re watching “Hey Arnold!”…

You should eat: Breakfast Banana Split with Yogurt and Jam
Celebrate your favorite football head in 4th grade, and eat something a little mischievous for breakfast like this banana split with yogurt and jam. As Arnold makes it clear, living in the big city can be hard, but not when you have something like this for breakfast.

If you’re watching “Yu-Gi-Oh!”

You should eat: Cheater Nutella Sticky Buns
If you love the wild games and adventures that happen on “Yu-Gi-Oh!” then you’ll need a breakfast that comes together fast and uses some top-secret ingredients. These cheater rolls are filled with Nutella and will see you through your favorite episodes.

If you’re watching “Dexter’s Laboratory”

You should eat: 2-Ingredient Banana Pancakes
Be your very own boy-genius by making these magical pancakes that only require two ingredients. Just two! Maybe Dexter would invite you to his secret laboratory if he knew what you were eating for breakfast.

If you’re watching “Doug”

You should eat: Smoothie Breakfast Bowl with Berries & Granola
You need something extra colorful and healthy if you want to watch “Doug” on Saturday morning. Colorful because the show is full of colorful characters (literally!), and healthy because Quail Man needs those antioxidants. This smoothie bowl accomplishes both of those things.

If you’re watching “The Ren & Stimpy Show”

You should eat: Savory Parmesan French Toast
“The Ren & Stimpy Show” is a very textural show; you get all the close-ups of the cartoons, their skin, their nostrils, etc. If you’re watching this show on Saturday morning, you need a breakfast that also has a lot of crevices, just like this savory French toast.

If you’re watching “Rocko’s Modern Life”

You should eat: Scrambled Eggs with Lazy Salsa
This totally surreal TV show follows the life of an anthropomorphic wallaby named Rocko. Along the way you meet all of his crazy friends and go on strange adventures around O-Town. In order to keep yourself sane, you need something super simple and kinda lazy to eat in the morning. This simple recipe will keep you grounded.

If you’re watching “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters”

You should eat: Green Shakshuka
Your school might not be in session on Saturdays, but that’s not the case for monsters. As you follow Ickis, Oblina, and Krumm around monster school, you need a breakfast that’s both filling and just a little thrilling. This Shakshuka recipe has four yellow yolks that kinda resemble googley eyes.

If you’re watching “The Weekenders”

You should eat: Kale, Bacon & Egg Breakfast Sandwich
“The Weekenders” follows a whole bunch of diverse seventh graders as they try to take advantage of the weekend. If you’re up for the challenge, you’re going to need a protein-rich breakfast that you can eat on the go. Enter: the healthy breakfast sandwich!

If you’re watching “Fillmore!”

You should eat: Chocolate-Glazed Baked Doughnuts with Sprinkles
When you’re fighting crime with Cornelius and Ingrid, there’s only one breakfast that will tide you over until lunch, and that’s doughnuts. X middle school isn’t a place to mess around, and you’ll make sure of that with this delicious breakfast.
