• Other highlights: I feel that the best place to start cooking is not with learning to mince onions or fillet a fish, but just with everyday recipes that look good to you. This is obviously a sentiment shared by the authors behind The Really Hungry Student Cookbook. The pages are filled with the kinds of recipes we want to eat — some as simple as scrambled eggs and a few more challenging things like casseroles and fried falafel. None of them are so fussy that it will matter if your onions are all chopped to the same size or you forgot the lemon.
I also love that this cookbook really covers a whole range of recipes, from basic comfort foods like pizza and spaghetti to fajitas, Indian curries, spicy shrimp skewers, and moussaka. There’s a big emphasis on veggies — lots of full-on vegetarian dishes as well as recipes where meat is just part of the ensemble cast.
A few solid recipes and you’re on your way in the kitchen. I think this cookbook will give you those and then some.
