If you’ve ever looked on Pinterest for table decorating ideas, you’ve probably left with your head spinning and your wallet hurting. It can be overwhelming — so many of the ideas are either time-consuming or expensive. That hand-stamped tablecloth and gorgeous floral centerpiece? Totally doable … if you’re Martha.

Most of us aren’t looking for an elaborate table setup; we just want something pretty, easy, and cheap to dress up a weeknight dinner. This idea fulfills all three!

Simple table decorating rule number one? Tealights and votives. Everyone knows a little candlelight is the first step towards a special table.

But you can take it a step further with one special detail: an herb sprig!

Put a tealight or votive in an empty marmalade jar, then tie an herb sprig around it with a bit of twine or string. Rosemary is wonderful, but you could also use thyme or any herb of your choice. Just slightly fragrant and a tad Kinfolk-y (but not too much!), it’s really the loveliest, simplest way to make a Wednesday night dinner feel like, well, it’s not just a Wednesday night dinner.
