Before you leave on a trip, you probably remember to take out the trash, do the dishes and clean out the refrigerator. But there is one more thing you could be doing to make your return a whole lot happier.

Before you hit the road, make sure you have a meal or two stored in the freezer for when you get back home! There’s nothing worse than getting home after a long day of travel and realizing you don’t have anything in the house to eat. Getting to the grocery store is out of the question and ordering takeout always seems like an unnecessary expense after an already-costly vacation.

In addition to the ideas below, you can freeze a loaf of bread, keep an unopened Tetra Pak of milk in the refrigerator or stock a few cans of your favorite store-bought soup to ensure you have a simple meal to get you through your most exhausted post-travel hours.
