On October 4, 2016, The Mindy Project is back on Hulu for a new season, with the first episode, called “Decision 2016,” penned by Mindy Kaling herself. To mark the occasion, I am making some fast and easy chocolate-filled baby bear claws to nosh on, because that’s what Mindy would want.

I’ve been a fan of Mindy Kaling since I read years ago that she was a writer for The Office and a main architect of the Jim and Pam relationship. I noticed that I rewatched the episodes she often wrote, and I therefore hungrily followed her to her own series, where she is lead actor, head writer, showrunner, and producer. The Mindy Project had me hooked.

My admiration for Mindy burgeoned beyond fandom into deep respect and I watched as she grew the main characters, Dr. Mindy Lahiri and Dr. Danny Castellano, into complex and flawed people with a dynamic and difficult relationship. I was truly impressed when she brilliantly embraced the funny, incredibly real, and heart-wrenching performance of the always-underrated (and crazy handsome and sexy — let’s be real here) actor, Chris Messina. I rooted for them through every up and down, even as Mindy Kaling eventually devolved and demoted Danny to his lowest self.

Mindy Kaling and Mindy Lahiri are also serious food folks. Most notably, and anytime it’s morning on the show, she’s got a bear claw in hand. That’s why I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Mindy’s return than with some snack-sized chocolate-filled bear claw treats, and see where she takes me next.
