The IKEA RÅSKOG Cart as Spice Rack
Variety is the spice of life — so they say — but even a few good spices can make a difference, turning that ho-hum bowl of chili into a sweat-inducing zinger. Still, whether your spice collection is comprehensive and abundant or small and selective, there is the question of how and where to store them. May we suggest the IKEA RÅSKOG cart?
When cooking, nothing is quite as inspiring as a wide array of ingredients sorted and staged all in one place, and what better place to do so than our favorite cart? In addition to your spice collection, let grains, pastas, rice, dried fruits, and nuts live alongside the traditional set for a full-scope palette ready to set the chef inside of you on fire.
3 Tips for Setting Up Your RÅSKOG Cart Spice Rack
Ready to spice up your organization? A few tips.
- Use clear containers: My rule of thumb in setting up this “rack” is to let the people be heard or, in this case, the ingredients be seen. As best you can, attempt to store every ingredient or spice in a translucent container. This will allow you to see what you have — and also provide a diverse showing of texture and color on your rack, making for a vibrant and full collection.
- Label the tops of your containers: It’s also a good idea to label the tops of your jars, especially those on the top shelf. And, should you need additional space for your spices, try turning a traditional spice rack, such as this attractive acacia wood piece, on its side. Slip it into one of the cart’s shelves for handsome organization of your small glass bottles.
- Store cart away from heat: Finally, it’s worth noting that the same rules of spice storage apply here. In other words, keep your spices away from heat and humidity; if you can find a cool, dark nook, that’s even better.
