These Peanut Butter Dog Treats Got Two Paws Up from Some of the Pickiest Pooches We Know
My friend Suzanne’s mini goldendoodle, Emma, is very popular in our neighborhood. Whenever they enter or exit our apartment building, the doormen give Emma a treat; when they pop into the local coffee shop, the staff gives her a treat; and when they visit neighbors — yep, you guessed it — more treats. But, while Emma is never lacking for snacks, she actually can be a picky eater, sticking mostly to nibbles made with freeze-dried chicken or beef. So, when The Honest Kitchen offered to send me their Goat’s Milk N’ Cookies treats to test (not for myself to test, though they do sound delicious), I thought they’d be perfect to try out on Emma, since they’re not the typical bites she goes for.
For those not familiar with The Honest Kitchen, the company makes a range of human-grade food, treats, and toppers for both dogs and cats, using thoughtfully sourced, wholesome ingredients you’d find in your own home. Their Goat’s Milk N’ Cookies line consists of slow-baked, probiotic-packed treats that come in a variety of tempting flavors, including Blueberry & Vanilla (mmm!), Pumpkin & Cinnamon (yum!), and Peanut Butter & Honey (hello! … Wait, should I test these myself?). Since Emma likes peanut butter, Suzanne chose those for her to test, though she wasn’t sure how her pup would respond to slightly sweet, meat-free treats. “At times, Emma shows disinterest in new treats and leaves them untouched,” she explains.
That certainly wasn’t the case when Emma was offered a Peanut Butter & Honey cookie. “She initially sniffed the treat,” which smelled delicious, says Suzanne. “Then she licked it, took it from me, and ate it.” An immediate fan, Emma came right back for more. The Peanut Butter & Honey treats turned out to be a winner for both mom and furbaby, satisfying not only Emma’s picky palate but also Suzanne’s desire to feed her healthy snacks.
Since Emma has so many puppy pals in the building, Suzanne decided to test the treats on them as well to see if the cookies got their seal of approval. Enter Emmy, a 2-year-old Havapoo, and Gorgeous, a seven-month-old dachshund. “Gorgeous will eat anything,” Suzanne says, “but Emmy is a picky eater and very particular about her meals and treats.” The verdict? Just like Emma, both dogs loved the Peanut Butter & Honey snacks. In fact, Suzanne says, “They stuck their heads into the open bag in order to sneak more bites.”
Make no bones about it (sorry!), The Honest Kitchen’s Peanut Butter & Honey Goat’s Milk N’ Cookies were a hit, earning a two-paws-up rating from three different dogs, and a positive review from a very particular pet parent. “I would definitely recommend these treats to other dog owners, for dogs in all life stages,” Suzanne says. And, I would recommend that The Honest Kitchen make a version that humans can eat, because these these dog cookies sound so darn tasty. In the meantime, pardon me while I polish off this package of Nutter Butters.
