Want your dinner party guests to be more likely to enjoy the meal you prepare? Invest in a set of heavy flatware.

Researchers at Oxford University did a study to determine whether or not the heft of the silverware made any difference in diners’ enjoyment of their meal.

They discovered that the heavier the utensils were, the more guests liked their meal, and the more they were willing to pay for it. Researchers served diners identical meals, but one set of diners had silverware that was three times heavier.

While it’s unclear exactly why the heavier silverware made the food seem to taste better, we’d guess it’s because you generally find heftier silver at fancier, more expensive restaurants.
