Quick Facts

Who wrote it: Susan Jane White

Who published it: Gill & Macmillan

Other highlights: Susan Jane White takes her diet seriously. She has to — for her, steering clear of wheat, sugar, and dairy is what keeps her out of the hospital. Sound familiar? Then this is the book you need. Because even though Susan has to take her diet seriously, this has in no way dampened her spirits or her enthusiasm for delicious food.

A few recipes into this book and you'll forget that you ever considered this diet "restricted." Her recipes are incredibly inventive, using ingredients like millet, raw cacao powder, and coconut sugar in ways you never imagined. Her writing is equal parts encouraging and sassy — and 100% fun to read. The book is also gorgeous. If the recipes or the writings don't immediately hook you, the beautiful photos certainly will.

The book is written for a British audience, so you might need to do a little translating with the ingredients. Nothing tough ("beetroot" = "beets," etc.) and nothing too confusing.
