Some years ago a reader wrote to us looking for a stovetop toaster. Well, too bad DeltaToast wasn't around then, because it's what we would have recommended.

This genius little toaster is actually a great solution for any of us who don't want to make room for a bulky plug-in appliance just for toast — it's a fold-flat tool designed to toast bread on the stove instead. Want to see more?

The DeltaToast gets its name from its "delta" or triangle shape it makes when open. It has room for a piece of bread (or even a sandwich) to be slotted in, and then it is placed over a burner, where the unique shape of the gadget channels the heat and toasts both sides of the bread at once. This sets it apart from other styles of stovetop or campfire toasters, which require you to flip the bread.

Best of all: it folds flat for storage! As Ed Dulles, the creator of the DeltaToast, explains:

DeltaToast is very compact and was designed specifically for small kitchens – in apartments, townhouses, boats, houseboats, motorhomes, RV’s, etc. These kitchens have precious little countertop space to host a common electric toaster.

Pretty clever, eh? I am certainly one who begrudges the counter space to a full-sized toaster, even though I do love my toast. But it feels wasteful to heat the broiler just for a slice of toast, and my stovetop toasting efforts have been unsatisfactory. So this little gadget makes a lot of sense!

Right now it's only available in the UK, but go visit their site and contact them directly if you're interested in having your very own stovetop toaster.
