While I can say that I truly love my kitchen and honestly would not change a thing, that was definitely not always the case. Until earlier this year, and for as long as my husband and I have lived in our apartment, the storage situation for our pots and pans drove me absolutely bonkers. It was nothing but frustration anytime I had to dig into that cabinet (spoiler alert: every day!). Then my husband came up with a brilliant solution that has been a total game-changer.
Our collection of cookware was housed in a lower, double-doored cabinet with a shelf across the center. This cabinet is wide and deep, so size was not exactly the issue — it was the setup. Even with that center shelf, nesting and stacking were a must. And because the cabinet is deep, it was so tricky to reach anything stored in the back. The obvious solution would be to put the cookware we don't use very often back there — but we use all of it, regularly. The constant jostling and daily shifting was annoying and had a way of always making this cabinet feel disorganized.
A Cookware Storage Solution Inspired by My Pantry
Just one more reason I love my pantry — it was the inspiration for my husband's brilliant idea to solve our cookware storage dilemma once and for all. Instead of traditional shelves, we installed shallow, pull-out shelves in the pantry, and he suggested we do the same for the cabinet with our pots and pans. Yes!
Sliding shelves are without a doubt the best thing we ever did for our kitchen. Adding these shallow shelves on rollers to our cookware cabinet means nothing is hidden away in the back corner anymore. While our pots and pans are still nested, everything is so much more accessible, whether it's stored in the front, back, top shelf, or bottom.
