Breakfast at the most popular fast food chain in the country is about to undergo a bit of a makeover. McDonald’s announced last week that over the next 10 years they will be switching to cage-free eggs in all of their stores in the United States and Canada.

Why make the switch? The new CEO, Steve Easterbrook, cited the desire to turn McDonald’s into a modern and progressive burger company.

McDonald’s isn’t alone in the cage-free movement; other major chains like Burger King and Starbucks have made the same commitment. But because of McDonald’s size, they have the potential to have a larger impact — especially once that all-day breakfast menu actually hits restaurant locations.
