Costco carries high-quality products at shockingly low prices, and that is no secret to the millions of card-carrying members, like me. I’ve been a member for over 12 years, and one reason why I will always renew is my devotion to Costco’s store brand, Kirkland Signature. The groceries under this private-label umbrella are as good as (and sometimes better than) their name-brand counterparts.

It can be unnerving to take a risk on any bulk buy — especially without the comfort of name-brand backing. So if this is your first time embarking on the wilds of the warehouse or you’re curious about the KS-labeled lineup, start with this list of staples. Here are 12 of the best Kirkland Signature products you can buy at Costco.

1. Kirkland Signature Rosemary Parmesan Bread, $7.99 for 2 (1-pound) loaves

Costco’s bakery keeps cranking out creative baked goods that send the warehouse’s fanatics into a frenzy. While I love trying the latest tasty treats, the best bakery buy will always be the rosemary Parmesan bread. Infused with earthy rosemary and salty Parmesan cheese, these yeasty loaves are the Costco grocery that made me a member for life. Enjoy waking up to eggs-in-a-basket when you swap your standard sandwich slice for a piece of this bread. Serve it toasted and buttered with your favorite soup (my pick is this classic chicken and rice soup). Don’t forget to reserve the ends for making homemade croutons on the stovetop.

2. Kirkland Signature Organic Diced Tomatoes, $7.99 for 8 (14.5-ounce) cans

I tell every new member to start their inaugural shopping trip with a box of Kirkland Signature organic diced tomatoes. While Costco’s store brand of diced tomatoes aren’t as flashy as a new TV or a whole beef tenderloin, they are the prime example of stocking your pantry with essentials from Costco. You may be surprised how quickly you cook through a case of diced tomatoes now that you have them on hand. They are an important ingredient in simple pizza sauce, cozy sausage and tomato risotto, and quick chickpea melts.

3. Kirkland Signature Organic Large Brown Eggs, $6.89 for 24 eggs

Costco’s Kirkland Signature organic large brown eggs are always in my shopping cart. While the warehouse also stocks conventional eggs, I love that I can buy two-dozen organic, cage-free eggs for a fraction of the price I’d pay at my local supermarket. And it’s not just at my local warehouse — we recently compared the price of eggs at Aldi, Costco, and Trader Joe’s, and Costco came out as the most affordable option.

It’s not hard to think of ways to prepare eggs for a hungry family, but here are some of my favorites: For breakfast we’re skipping the drive-thru and making these copycat McDonald’s Egg McMuffins. Also, this spicy shakshuka is studded with eggs, and is a perfect pantry-friendly meal.

4. Kirkland Signature Organic Maple Syrup, $12.99 for 1 liter

Maple syrup is the not-so-secret ingredient in yeasty maple bar doughnuts and orange-maple French toast casserole. This sweet, amber syrup isn’t just a breakfast staple — it also adds flavor to black pepper and maple roasted turkey, maple-glazed salmon, and whipped sweet potatoes. Whenever I make sucre à la crème, I remember my grandma, so perhaps that’s the real reason to buy this organic maple syrup in bulk from Costco.

5. Kirkland Signature 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, $17.49 for 2 liters

This Italian extra virgin olive oil is an affordable option for high-quality imported olive oil. Price alone isn’t what earned this olive oil a spot on this list — it also tastes great. The flavor is buttery and slightly green, which makes it a good choice for salad dressings and tasty marinades, and for everyday cooking. It comes in a large green-tinted bottle to protect the oil from light and extend its shelf life. I prefer to decant the oil into a tinted glass bottle with a dispenser, and store the rest in a dark, cool, and dry place.

6. Kirkland Signature Pecan Halves, $11.39 for 2 pounds

Pecans can be expensive, even from the bulk section of your grocery store. Instead of shelling out all that cash for small bags of pecan halves, head straight for the snack section of your local Costco. There you can find two pounds of Kirkland Signature’s buttery pecans for the same price you’d pay for a significantly smaller package elsewhere. The pecans are always fresh for adding to pecan pies, baking into buttery pound cakes, and stirring into crunchy granola.

7. Kirkland Signature Brut Champagne, $19.99 for 750 milliliters

Costco is known for its excellent selection of wine at affordable prices. Case in point: Kirkland Signature Brut French Champagne sells for $20. This Champagne is made specifically for Costco with hints of lemon zest and citrus. The best part is that this bottle of bubbly is sophisticated enough for gifting, but affordable enough that you can enjoy any day of the week.

8. Kirkland Signature Parmigiano Reggiano Wedge, $10.99 per pound (about 1 1/2-pound wedge)

If you can only buy one thing at Costco, let it be a wedge of Kirkland Signature Parmigiano Reggiano. This cheese is the real deal, with all of the distinguishing features of high-quality Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The rind is stamped, the cheese has been aged for 24 months, and there’s a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) seal, authenticating that the cheese has been produced according to tradition.

9. Kirkland Signature Organic Tortilla Chips, $6.79 for 2 1/2-pound bag

The Kirkland Signature tortilla chips are made from white and yellow corn, and that true corn flavor comes through. The chips are seasoned with the perfect amount of salt, and they’re hearty enough for chunky dips like this four-can skillet nacho dip or the classic seven-layer dip. Plus, the bag holds a hefty two-and-a-half pounds, which makes it a must-have for parties and weeks where 30-minute chilaquiles, sheet pan nachos, or restaurant-style taco salads are on the menu.

10. Kirkland Signature Parchment Paper, $12.99 for 2 (205-square-foot) rolls

Parchment paper is an unsung hero of the kitchen — whether its lining bakeware so layer cakes and chocolate chip cookies come out cleanly, creating paper pockets for gently cooking salmon en papillote, or being used as a base for delightfully crispy bacon. Make sure you’re never without this kitchen essential by picking up the double rolls of Kirkland Signature parchment paper. The serrated edge makes tearing off sheets easy, plus since it comes as a roll rather than a sheet, so I can remove only the amount I need.

11. Kirkland Signature Paper Towels, $19.49 for 12 (160-sheet) rolls

Kirkland Signature’s paper towels are exactly as advertised: “Strong, thick, and absorbent.” The rolls are studded with perforations so that you can choose the size of the towel you need. The paper towels’ packaging have been causing a dust-up recently as members notice that the rolls are no longer individually wrapped in an effort to reduce the amount of plastic packaging. But at the time I visited, the paper towels at my warehouse were still individually wrapped. So, the roll-out looks to be gradual.

12. Kirkland Signature Flex-Tech Kitchen Bags, $16.99 for 200 (13-gallon) bags

As a 12-year Costco veteran, I’ve been using Kirkland Signature Flex-Tech kitchen bags for as long as I can remember. The 13-gallon bags fit perfectly in my trash bin and, thanks to the Flex-Tech, the bags stretch to accommodate even the heaviest loads. The drawstring and thick edging also help secure the bags so that they stay put in the trash can. This bulk-sized box of bags sells for just under $17 for 200 bags, making them just eight cents per bag.
