Lately, it seems like the price of almost everything is on the rise, and consumers are feeling the pressure. Ongoing inflation is forcing customers to stretch their already stretched budgets. As we head into the summer months and major holidays are on the horizon, people are trying to plan their summer activities whether it be a backyard barbecue or local staycation. Companies are hearing shoppers’ concerns and acting accordingly, and Target is the latest store aiming to ease the burden.

Target recently announced it is lowering prices on about 5,000 items to help consumers save millions of dollars this summer. This includes essentials like “milk, meat, bread, soda, fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, yogurt, peanut butter, coffee, diapers, paper towels, pet food, and more,” according to a statement from the store. New prices will be easily identifiable with red tags reflecting the reduced price in-store. (They’ll also clearly be reflected on the website and the app.)

Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief food, essentials, and beauty officer at Target said, “We know consumers are feeling pressured to make the most of their budget, and Target is here to help them save more.” The savings will be on many of their store-brand items such as Good & Gather frozen chicken breasts, shredded cheese, unsalted butter, and baby spinach. But it’s not exclusively Target’s own brands. Name brand items like Clorox Scented Wipes and Pepperidge Farm Goldfish will also have discounted prices. Target also already has plenty of inexpensive finds like these $1 summer drinks or $3 stemless wine glasses to stock up on for summer parties.

This announcement comes just in time for Memorial Day and builds upon existing price reductions. Target recently lowered the price of 1,500 items and plans to continue to cut prices throughout the summer. Aldi also recently reduced prices on hundreds of summer essentials. Maybe other retailers will soon follow suit. So plan those festivities without worry knowing you’ll be saving a little extra this summer.
