The Target Kids’ Section Buy Adults Shouldn’t Skip
I don’t have kids — nor am I thinking about having any — but I am obsessed with Target, which means I find myself browsing nearly all of the aisles when I’m there. That includes the kiddie sections, mainly for two reasons. For one, the stuff in the Pillowfort line is so darn cute and a lot of it can work in a grown-up space. And because it tends to be on the smaller side — especially the lamps! — it’s great for my tiny apartment. Second, the kids’ section is where one of the most underrated dinnerware brands is kept.
I’m talking about BIOBU [by EKOBO], which is made entirely with a bamboo fiber.
The European-based brand was founded by a Franco-American duo when they couldn’t find BPA-free (or Disney-free) baby dishes for their daughter. They launched their first product — a kids’ set — and haven’t really looked back since. Now the line features lots of kid-focused stuff like small spoons, side plates, eight-ounce glasses, and more. The spoons, I find, are great for ice cream. The side plates? I use them for snacks on the couch during movie night. And the little eight-ounce glasses are fun for juice.
These days, BIOBU also makes non-kid stuff — like these storage jars. And the goods are available in other places (Amazon and boutique shops, especially), so I thought I’d round up some of my favorite BIOBU pieces — from Target and beyond. It’s all sleekly colored, lightweight, durable, and dishwasher-safe.
1. Biobu by Ekobo Bambino 20-Ounce Bowls, $26 for four at Target
These light and colorful bowls are great for serving dips and chips, when al fresco dining season rolls around. The weather will turn nice again and you will be able to put these bowls to good use. Promise. Also, there are matching side plates.
2. Biobu by Ekobo Bambino Small Spoons, $9 for four at Target
Again, I really like to use these little spoons for ice cream. (They’re small, so they help me slow down and NOT eat an entire pint in one sitting.) I also like to use them as coffee stirrers.
3. Food52 x Ekobo Recycled Bamboo Colander & Pour Bowl Set, $39 at Food52
Of course Food52 teamed up with the brand to come up with super design-y grown-up items. This colander set is as functional as it is beautiful. The pieces nest, so liquids drain as you lift up the colander and the bottom bowl has a handy pour spout. Use them as a set or use the bowl on its own for scrambled eggs, pancake batter, or anything else that needs to be poured.
4. Bento Lunch Box & Cutlery Set, $35 at Food52
The best lunches are the ones with at least two different things to munch on. If you agree with me, you might be interested in this bento set. It can hold hot or cold liquids (although it’s not microwave-safe) and comes with two compartments for yogurt, salads, fruits, etc.
5. Fresco Fruit Bowl by EKOBO, $27 at Burke Decor
Another super grown-up product from the brand, this bowl comes in three understated colors and arranges fruit in a cool, geometric design.
Have you bought anything from this brand? What’d you think? Are there any other kid-centric things you love at Target?
