My heart skipped a beat when our sources at Target shared there’d be 40 (yes, 40!) new items hitting shelves for Valentine’s Day. The mega-retailer has been busy the last few years building out its store-brand offerings, first with the launch of Good & Gather (2019) and more recently Favorite Day (2021). And while G&G, as I refer to it, touches nearly every grocery aisle, Favorite Day is pretty much all about snacks and desserts.

This year, Favorite Day is adding dozens of pink- and red-hued products to that list. I tried as many of the new Favorite Day products I could get my hands on, including pancake and trail mixes, cookies, candies, and more. These are the eight new Valentine’s items you’ll want to pick up before the holiday.

1. Pink Chocolate Chip Pancake Mix

This just-add-water mix makes Tuesday morning pancakes a real possibility. They’re fluffy, fun, and pink! Did I have them two days in a row? Yes. Am I looking to three-peat? You betcha. The package instructions are for the entire mix, so if you’re like me and cooking for one (or two) you’ll need to get creative with your measurements (mine was roughly one part mix to 3/4 parts water).

2. Red Velvet Crème Filled Cookies

No time for pancakes? Take a cue from my grandma and nibble on one of these chocolaty coated cookies with your morning coffee (or tea, or milk). The contrast of crumbly cookie and marshmallowy cream make for a pleasant first bite of the day. Dunking is optional.

3. Strawberry Shortbread Cookies

Like all good shortbread cookies, these are nice and buttery (butter is the second ingredient). The thickness results in a more crumbly than snappy texture, which I personally prefer. And while their light-pink hue and heart shape SCREAMS seasonal offering, I’d be perfectly OK if these became a series regular.

4. Strawberries & Crème Trail Mix

This trail mix is one of the sweetest to hit Target shelves. There are two kinds of candy-coated pretzels (heart- and ball-shaped), M&Ms, candied almonds and cranberries, plus bite-sized sprinkled cookies (my personal favorite in the bag). Add a handful to school lunches, mix it into popcorn, or simply snack on some straight from the bag.

5. Strawberry, Pineapple, and Grape Gummies

There’s a lot to love about this bag of gummies. Of course, there’s the XOXO shapes, the distinctive fruity flavors, and the chewy (but not sticky) texture. Plus, the adorable pink bow and To/From card (inside the label) make it oh-so giftable — even if that gift is for yourself.

6. Valentine’s Collection Assorted Chocolates

Ah, the heart-shaped box of chocolates. It’s arguably the most iconic of the holiday’s tropes — and a delicious one at that. This one comes with 18 mostly milk chocolates in eight different varieties and a mix of creamy, crispy, and fruity fillings. Pro tip: Remove the chocolate tray from the box so you can more easily read the chocolate chart on the bottom.

7. Raspberry Chocolate Heart Hot Drink Bomb

I swooned over the pomp of melting this geometric heart with serious Titanic vibes. It floats atop the warmed milk just long enough to be surprising, then sinks, releasing a gaggle of mini marshmallows and sprinkles (also heart-shaped). Although there is a hint of raspberry, it mostly tastes like a pink-hued, liquified bar of white chocolate. Fun fact: There are also milk– and dark-chocolate bombs, sold individually and in packs of two

8. Sweetheart Pink Sugar Cookie House Kit

Move over, gingerbread: This sugar cookie house kit is the evening activity for your inner child and outer children. In addition to icing, it comes with handy base clips to help hold the structure in place. The pre-baked cookies have etched designs (windows, a door, etc.), which makes decorating a bit like paint by number — although feel free to ice out of the lines! I certainly did.
