Whenever websites have anniversary sales with deep discounts, I often get sensory overload and add a variety of colorful things I don’t need (e.g., blush-colored high balls, holiday-themed potholders) to my cart. As fun as those can be, however, at the end of the day the best investment is function and simplicity. So I was excited to see that Sur La Table has included many items from Duralex in their anniversary sale (check it out — some items are up to 70 percent off).

Duralex makes simple but very durable glassware and bakeware, and I’m a huge fan of these two items in particular. So many kitchen items are made with form over function in mind, but fortunately Duralex hasn’t made this sacrifice.

This may sound extreme, but one of the best decisions I’ve ever made was to replace my leaning tower of mismatched plastic mixing bowls with a set of Duralex Lys Clear Stacking Bowls. The key word is stacking — they take up only as much space as the largest six-quart bowl because they nest perfectly. And since they’re made of durable Duralex glass, they can go straight into the dishwasher and I never worry about them chipping. It’s not uncommon for me to use every single bowl when I’m prepping for a party, whether it’s for ingredients or to serve nuts or popcorn. Once again, if you spring for the set of 10, you’ll save 40 percent. Normally $54, the set is only $32 on sale.

When I moved into my very first apartment, I took my older sister’s advice and got a set of Duralex Picardie tumblers. Eight moves (and many years) later, not one — not a single glass — has chipped or broken. They’ve taken countless falls from counters, coffee tables, and nightstands, and I even store them stacked to save space. Their timeless design makes them universally perfect as a water or iced coffee glass, and I love to use the small 3.1-ounce size for a short pour of wine or bourbon. You can choose between six sizes, all sold in sets of six, at a discount. But you’ll save almost 40 percent if you go for an 18-piece set, on sale for only $52 (normally $85).
