Here’s the scenario: You invited friends and family to come over, watch the football game, and hang out. It’s unclear who is coming to actually watch the game and who is just coming for the commentary. But it is clear that everyone is expecting food.

Our favorite solution: Use the slow cooker to do some hands-off cooking while you prep various chips and dips or a snack board from store-bought shortcuts. These are 25 of our favorite slow cooker recipes that are perfect for any game day.

Dips and Snacks

Are queso and wings obligatory game-day fare? Absolutely, because they are delicious and filling and last the whole length of the game. The slow cooker makes both of these easier to prepare and can also make some excellent make-ahead snacks too.

Sandwiches, Subs, and Tacos

One of my favorite strategies is to cook a big batch of something hearty like pulled pork or brisket and then serve up rolls or tortillas plus toppings like slaw or salsa. This way guests can make their sandwiches just the way they like.

Soups and Stews

Our friends always serve a hearty vegetable stew when they host us for game nights or beer tasting, and it is so smart because it fills everyone up inexpensively. Plus, if you serve these hearty soups or stews in mugs with handles they are pretty easy to carry and eat around any kind of party.
