My love of dessert began on my first birthday. There’s even photo documentation (which I will not be sharing with you, dear reader) of me staring hungrily at my birthday cake with frosting smeared on my face. I remain just as excited about dessert more than three decades later, and it’s why working at The Kitchn can be a challenge sometimes. Our food team will often bring out rounds of cookies, ice cream cakes, and pies for us office folk to scavenge after doing a photoshoot — it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it!

Now that I’ve spent so much time being spoiled at work, I’ve gotten a bit more snobby about my at-home desserts. As much as I love Ben & Jerry’s, it doesn’t always cut it after a hard week at work. When I got the opportunity to test Sunday Night’s Signature Classic Chocolate Sauce, I knew that I was in for a real treat (actually, multiple treats). I went through a big Hershey’s syrup phase a few years ago and thought that this could be a more grown-up alternative, but it surpassed my expectations.

What Is the Sunday Night Signature Classic Chocolate Sauce?

Sunday Night’s Signature Classic Chocolate Sauce is a rich, glossy sauce that is meant to serve as a topping for whatever dessert you’re enjoying, or as an ingredient to a dessert that you’re whipping up from scratch to bring an extra luxurious layer of chocolate. This sauce, which should be stored in the refrigerator after opening, is made out of pure cane sugar, cream, invert cane syrup, butter, unsweetened chocolate, Dutch cocoa powder, pure vanilla extract, and sea salt. That’s it! It doesn’t contain any gluten, soy, peanuts, or tree nuts, although it does have dairy. The sauce has a batter-like consistency, which makes drizzling it over some brownies or cookies a luxury experience.

Why I Love the Sunday Night Signature Classic Chocolate Sauce

I can’t get enough of the Sunday Night Signature Classic Chocolate Sauce — even my picky boyfriend declared that the sauce seemed like it came from a high-end Manhattan ice cream shop. I love to drizzle it on top of vanilla ice cream and create a sundae. This sauce almost seems like hot fudge (you’re supposed to heat it in the microwave for 10 seconds to get it to a more spreadable consistency), without any of the extra work. I also used it as a brownie topping, which earned rave reviews from my friends and family. Some asked if I had any batter remaining, so they could take another spoonful. Imagine their surprise when I said I had a whole jar of it in my fridge! At just $9, it’s a steal. Not a fan of sweet chocolate sauce? There’s also Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt Chocolate, and even Vegan Chocolate.
