Other highlights: This cookbook is like a condensed, sun-drenched, intensified shot of summer. I would go so far as to say it’s impossible to flip through the pages and not feel an immediate need to abandon one’s shoes and get creative with whatever is fresh in the kitchen. Summer Food is filled with recipe after recipe, and photo after photo, of foods that feel just right for making right now. As in, tonight. Or at the very least, this weekend once you’ve had a chance to invite some friends over.

The book has a definite Scandinavian influence — lots of things like smoked fish, potatoes on the side, and chilled fruit soups. I love the spare design pared with the lush photographs of every recipe. These are the kinds of recipes that can stand on their own as an early dinner after coming home from the farmers market or as part of a breezy summer party with lots of friendly faces around the table.
