The turkey’s ready to go in the oven, the potatoes are mashed, the stuffing is going well, but … shoot! Where’s the cranberry sauce? Even the best list-makers and party-planners sometimes forget that one ingredient that was going to make or break a dish and have to run out at the last minute. Thankfully, some grocery stores stay open on the big day, ready to save Thanksgiving and let you pretend nothing ever went wrong.

But don’t bother stopping into Aldi, Costco, Publix, or Trader Joe’s — they, like many stores around the country, all close on Thanksgiving Day. For the second year in a row Walmart and Target will also close for the entirety of Thanksgiving (in previous years, the giant retailers would open later in the day for Black Friday sales). Still, a significant amount of grocery stores around the country stay open until mid-afternoon, allowing customers to get in the last-minute shopping, but still letting their employees leave in time to enjoy a meal of their own.

Here are the stores you can depend on for last-minute almonds and stuffing to save the day. Just remember — these folks are working on a day everyone else is not, so treat your checkers and baggers like the royalty that they are, even through your holiday frazzle. Also, the hours depend on individual stores, so use this as a general guide, but check with your local branch.

ACME: Stores open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Albertsons: Most stores open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cub Foods: Stores close at 4 p.m.

Food4Less: Stores open 6 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Giant Food Store: Stores open regular hours

H-E-B: All stores open 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Curbside: 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Hy-Vee: Stores open until 2 p.m.

H Mart: Stores open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Kroger: Most stores open 6 a.m. to midnight

QFC: Most stores open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ralphs: Stores open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Safeway: Most stores open 6 a.m. to midnight

Shoprite: Stores open regular hours

Sprouts Farmers Market: Stores open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stop & Shop: Stores open regular hours

Vons: Stores open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WinCo: Stores close at 3 p.m.

Wegmans: Stores close at 4 p.m.

Whole Foods: Most open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
