When Kevin and Amanda, the bloggers behind the appropriately named site Kevin & Amanda, moved the laundry room to another space closer to the garage, they knew they wanted to do something special with their new-found kitchen-adjacent space. The logical answer: a walk-in pantry.

The couple worked with a professional to draw up the best shelving configuration that could hold everything they needed to store and hide the fact that the space used to be a laundry room. The result has adjustable shelves, drawers, baskets — and no sign of the room’s original function.

As organized and convenient as the space is now (there is seriously a place for everything!), Amanda’s favorite feature is a small one: a push-button door switch, which she got at Home Depot.

“It’s installed in the hinge and, when the door closes, it pushes a button to turn off the light,” she explains. “When the door opens, the button is released and the light comes on!” She says it’s great for grabbing something real quick or if your hands are full. Oh, and if you need to be in the pantry with the door closed, the light can be flicked on.
