Every chef on the internet has been working their butt off helping teach people how to cook well while we’re in quarantine, but few of them have even an ounce of the charm of award-winning actor Stanley Tucci showing off his bartending lessons on Instagram — though we suspect many of them would make a better Negroni.

Tucci is no stranger to food and drink on film: aside from his famous roles all over television and movies, he was in the culinary classic Big Night as well as Julie and Julia. But these days one of his main gigs has been wooing the internet with his sweet, calm voice, smart commentary, and enthusiasm for cooking. His video of himself making a Negroni is no different: he’s friendly, he makes it seem like it’s a breeze, he doesn’t hesitate to badmouth shitty drink companies, and he explains clearly what he’s doing. The result looks lovely.

Yet the fact that a celebrity of his stature seems to know what he’s doing behind the bar (or, in this case, a stove) is called into question when you look beyond his adorable eyebrows to the fact that what he made is technically not a Negroni.

The classic Negroni is a simple cocktail, and that has always been part of its charm: just stir together equal parts gin, Campari, vermouth rosso, serve over ice. Of course, people play with it — I personally love a boulevardier, which subs whiskey for the gin. But not only does Tucci offer vodka as a gin substitute but he also doubles the spirit ratio and then shakes it up, allowing him to serve his rocket fuel up in a coupe rather than on the rocks. I guess we’re in quarantine so we are all doing what we can to get through the day? I suppose when you have adorable eyebrows like that it doesn’t really matter if you call whatever you’re making a Negroni.

Here’s how to make the real thing: The Classic Negroni Cocktail
