From the moment I started remixing ramen noodles into gourmet meals and spending hours watching cooking shows as a puny six-year-old, I knew I found a deep passion for food. While I realized — after taking on a two-year high school internship in an award-winning kitchen — that a…read more

With winter here, you might be looking for fun cooking projects to try out on the weekends. While mastering sourdough or making cinnamon rolls from scratch are popular hobbies, many people on TikTok have recently discovered a much simpler activity that’s surprisingly soothing (and delicious!). In one video, which has racked up nearly 1.6 million views, a digital creator reveals an easy tip for turning ice cream and your favorite mix-ins into a homemade version of a Dairy Queen Blizzard — and no, you don’t need any fancy equipment, all that’s required is a stand mixer.

This hack is perfect if you don’t live near a Dairy Queen or simply don’t feel like driving to one. If you’ve never tried a Blizzard, it’s a frozen treat made by blending soft-serve ice cream with mix-ins like Reese’s cups, cookie dough, Oreos, or other delicious toppings.

To make a homemade Blizzard, TikTok users scoop flavors like vanilla, chocolate, or rum raisin ice cream into a stand mixer and add their favorite toppings, such as leftover holiday candy, brownies, or peanut butter. Then they blend everything to achieve the signature soft-serve-like consistency of Dairy Queen Blizzard.

If you try this trend, TikTok users recommend letting your ice cream soften slightly before adding it to the stand mixer. This way, you won’t strain your appliance by blending hard, rock-solid ice cream with your toppings.

This trend is going viral on social media, and people can’t get over how easy this hack is. One person commented, “This is the third video I’ve seen [of this trend] in 5 minutes. I guess I need to make a homemade blizzard.” Another person mentioned, “My husband and I have been doing this every night this week with different toppings.”

When the weekend comes, you don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen to make a tasty treat. With this hack, you can whip up a dessert in just minutes. It’s highly customizable, so you can use any snacks hanging in your pantry as mix-ins and easily upgrade the ice cream you already have sitting in your freezer.
