These Spinach Dip Mozzarella Sticks Are an Appetizer Mash-Up Made in Heaven
I love a good duet. Britney and Elton. Dua and Elton. Really, anyone and Elton. So when I came across a duet of two of my favorite appetizers — spinach dip and mozzarella sticks — from Instagram chef and entrepreneur daronthechef aka Uncle Bev, I knew I was about to experience something delicious.
Spinach dip mozzarella sticks are just that — a creamy, spinachy, cheesy filling that’s rolled, coated, and fried. Uncle Bev starts by sautéing some spinach, onion, and garlic and then mixing that with cream cheese, plenty of shredded mozzarella and Parmesan, and a few seasonings from his own line of spices. Next — and this is key — he chills down the filling in the freezer for 30 minutes before cutting and forming the mixture into logs. He bathes the logs in an egg wash, rolls them in breadcrumbs, and then fries them to perfection.
When I saw this video my gasp was so loud that my husband came running into the room. On its face, spinach dip mozzarella sticks might sound like just another social media recipe gimmick, but when you think about it, it really is a marriage made in heaven. It takes a childhood favorite and elevates it with what, in my opinion, is one of the best party dips of all time. Insert chef’s kiss here.
In fact, I think 2023 should be declared the Year of the Food Mash-Up. Why not create more gorgeous marriages, like these kimchi latkes? Or how about Rice Krispies cookies? If you’re looking to break out of your usual cooking routine, the creative process of figuring out how to merge two delicious things into one might just be the spark you need. I’m certainly carrying that spirit forward with me in the new year, and you can be sure that spinach dip mozzarella sticks will be making an appearance at my next party.
