... a spice rack backsplash! Here's how she did it:
I have NO extra space in my kitchen, but a ton of spices and spice blends that I regularly use. I liked this post you guys had up the other day, but I don't even have a tiny cabinet like that. So I took matters into my own hands.
I installed 2 metal tiles from Crate & Barrel above the backsplash of my stove. I drilled them into the tile with wall anchors, and since most everything else in my kitchen is stainless, it matches nicely.
I also bought 2 oz hexagonal jars and used E-6000 glue to put in small, flat but extra strong magnets. I like to use this size spice jar and refill them from larger bulk spice bags that I keep in an airtight container in the fridge/freezer. They end up staying fresher a lot longer. I like the array of colors it gives and the spices are always close at hand!
Of course, spices shouldn't be stored too close to light and heat for long periods of time. But as Lucy said, she uses these spices quickly and has long-term storage elsewhere. Storing them over the stove like this is a great short-term solution, especially if it helps you use them more often!
