I’m one of those water people. My purse is more a water bottle holder than anything else, and my car has at least two full Nalgenes in it at any given moment… you get the picture. When I first moved into my apartment, I installed an under-the-sink water filtration system thinking I would be filtering out all the bad stuff and improving the taste. But a few weeks ago, I started using the Soma Pitcher and realized that (gasp!) the water I have so diligently been drinking doesn’t taste good at all!

Soma has brilliantly designed a beautiful (who knew a filtering water pitcher could be so pretty?) and all-around sustainable solution for those whose drinking water is just not up to par. The filter, which should be traded out every two months, is made from 60 percent plant-based and renewable materials — chiefly activated coconut shell carbon and charcoal — that work to filter out chlorine, mercury, zinc, cadmium, copper, and other smells and tastes.

This countertop stunner is crafted using BPA-free plastics and environmentally friendly materials, and even though I am constantly gulping down glasses, I find myself filling this 10-cup pitcher relatively infrequently. If you have a harder time getting in your daily water quota, the sleek profile and easy-to-use features will have you hydrated in no time. (I mean, who wouldn’t want to put that cool conical insert and modern bamboo handle to work?) The pitcher is super easy to refill by running tap water over the one-way valve. The pressure of the water pushes the circular flap open to fill up the filter’s basin, and the top stays closed when you pour a glass. This brilliant, hands-off design keeps your H2O clean from any dirt or oils that may be lurking on your fingers.

I now use my Soma to fill everything, including my electric kettle, humidifier, French press, and of course the 32-oz. mason jar I use as a water glass. If you’re looking for even more praise for this life-changing pitcher you can find it on our Kitchen Essentials list or read the thousands of rave reviews anywhere it’s listed for sale.

The truth is, once you taste Soma-filtered water, you won’t be turning back. It’s just that good.
