Need some nourishment in your life? To me, there’s almost nothing more comforting — and delicious — than a bowl (or giant pot) of soup. Angela Davis, aka the Kitchenista, recently shared a mouthwatering recipe for smoky chicken and okra soup, and if you’re in the mood for something equally flavor-packed and nutrient-dense, you should definitely take notes.

On Instagram, Davis called this “the soup that brought me back to life,” and we can totally see why. The recipe combines smoked chicken, okra, roasted red pepper, jalapeño, smoked tomatoes, duck stock, coconut milk, and spices.

Don’t have these exact ingredients on hand? The beauty of Davis’ recipe is in its versatility. Smoked meat and roasted veggies lend warmth that makes this soup unique, but you can add any veggies you’d like, or use curry powder in place of turmeric and paprika. How you eat it is up to you, too: Davis says she ate her first few bowls over rice.

Either way, you’re probably going to want to follow Davis’ example and make a huge pot so you can freeze it for later. You never know when you’ll crave something cozy! And while you’re at it, check out this herby Persian Ash Reshteh soup or this chicken velvet and spinach soup to keep the party going.
