Q: Help! I’m terrible in the kitchen, but since our children are still little, everyone in our family will be coming over for an afternoon gathering on Christmas Eve afternoon. We have agreed to simple appetizers and finger foods that are gluten-, dairy- and nut-free. I’m terrible at planning and am at a loss!

Can you help with a menu? I would love to have a meal that didn’t taste awful.

Editor: Laura, a build-your-own taco or baked potato bar would be good options. You could make a simple filling or topping (like Slow Cooker Barbacoa Beef for the tacos or chili for the potatoes) and the rest of the cooking would just involve chopping up garnishes. These types of meals can also be easily adapted to any dietary restrictions.
