Siggi’s New No-Sugar-Added Yogurt Is Sweetened Only by Fruit
I’m a huge fan of Siggi’s yogurt. It’s rich, thick, and creamy, and it comes in a ton of interesting flavors. Now, in excellent news for anybody who prefers their yogurt with less sugar, Siggi’s has come out with a new line of whole-milk yogurt that has no added sugar at all.
Siggi’s has long touted itself as a yogurt with less sugar than most other brands, but a lot of people were looking for a yogurt with even less sugar than that. The new “No Added Sugar” line is mixed with fruit for sweetness and flavor, but there are no other sweeteners added to the container at all. That’s just what a lot of us were looking for.
“We have always been at the forefront of reducing sugar in yogurt, and we are constantly pushing ourselves to use even less sugar while still making delicious yogurt with no strange additives,” Siggi’s founder Siggi Hilmarsson said. “We understand that consumers today more than ever want less sugar. For example, in a recent survey we conducted, over 80 percent of participants noted that they are actively trying to reduce their sugar consumption.”
The new line comes in two flavors: banana with cinnamon, and peach and mango. I spotted them on a recent trip to Whole Foods, and I was thrilled. My 3-year-old is going through a picky-eating phase, but she adores yogurt. That means I spend a lot of time reading yogurt labels lately, and for a lot of them, sugar is one of the main ingredients. I try to keep the amount of added sugar in her diet to a minimum when I can, because my toddler has a serious sweet tooth and would eat a bag of brown sugar by the handful if I let her.
My toddler spotted the new no-sugar-added Siggi’s containers before I did, and she asked for them. I read the label, and I was surprised when the ingredients list just said: “Pasteurized Whole Milk, Pasteurized Cream, Bananas, Fruit Pectin, Cinnamon, Lemon Juice, and Live Active Cultures.” That sounded pretty good to me.
The banana and cinnamon flavor was a huge hit. My picky toddler devoured a whole cup and asked for more, and I liked it too. She did not like the peach and mango flavor, but that was no surprise because she doesn’t like peaches or mangos in general. Banana was a smashing success, though. I’m definitely buying more, and I hope they come out with more flavors soon.
