This Cult-Favorite Board Game Rarely Goes on Sale — But It’s 40 Percent Off Right Now
You’re either obsessed with playing Catan (aka Settlers of Catan) or you’ve never heard of the game at all — there really is no in-between. As a self-proclaimed Catan champ (the people I regularly play with may disagree, but we’ll let the winning stats speak for themselves!), I love my four-year-old board game. It’s witnessed some intense deals and bitter endings to friendships (and once almost a marriage), but eventually lifelong bonds formed over the rise and fall of farming civilizations.
For those who haven’t played before — and if you haven’t, definitely get on it! — the goal of the game is to establish colonies on the island of Catan while trading and acquiring resources such as wheat, clay, ore, and sheep. You earn points as your settlements grow, and the first player to reach 10 points wins. The board game, which launched in Germany in 1995, has become a cult favorite, selling over 22 million copies (and counting!) across the globe. And if you don’t already own Catan, now is your chance to get on board, because the game, which rarely goes on sale, is currently marked down to $30 at Walmart (originally $49).
“This is the first time I saw it priced below $50.00. This is a significant discount on this popular classic board game,” noted one customer. “My family and I enjoy playing this game very much. The concept is simple and creative.” Another Catan convert raved about the game’s ability to keep you hooked: “I am not a huge board game person but I got dragged into a game by some friends and this game turned out to be incredibly fun. Lots of strategy and skill with a good amount of luck.”
While Catan is a must-have for your own board game collection, it also makes a great gift for friends and family members. As one reviewer summed it up: “BEST GAME EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR!”
I couldn’t agree more.
